At least 16 people have been killed in a coal mine accident in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality.
According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the accident was caused by poor industrial security.
The accident happened at the Sangjao coal mine in Chongqing, which is affiliated with a local energy company, local officials said. China’s coal mines are among the most dangerous in the world, according to local officials.
Seventeen workers were detained at the mine. One of them has been taken to hospital for treatment.
A 75-member rescue team anad a 30-member medical team rushed to the spot immediately after the accident. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
